Experience the magic of indigo dyeing and follow the age-old steps to create your own indigo vat in this full-day workshop with horticulturist and natural dyer Julia Billings.

Over the course of the workshop, we’ll cover the key aspects of dyeing with indigo: fibre preparation, creating and maintaining a mini vat to take home to deepen your own indigo practice, over-dyeing to create complex colours, safe handling and disposal and other tips and tricks.

We’ll dye samples of yarn and use simple resist methods to create patterning on fabric in a large indigo vat. If time permits, participants will also have the chance to small objects from home- if you'd like, please bring along items made from natural materials, such as cotton, silk, linen, wool, leather and wood. Extra yarn will also be available to purchase.

Date: Sunday May 8 or Saturday July 16

Level: Beginner

Included: Comprehensive notes on all processes covered, a mini vat, samples of dyed yarn and fabric and tea and snacks
