Though the days are getting longer and there are the very first hints of spring appearing, it is often in February and March that Glasgow gets its yearly snow. While that snow can plunge us back into deep winter, it is a joy to most, bringing lightness and brightness in the greyest of months. This time last year, I took this photo of deer grazing in nearby Pollok Park and it inspired me to put together a box of treasures for and inspired by deep winter.

Included in the box are:

2 types of yarn, plant-dyed especially for a new design, the Winter Roe shawl:

1 skein of Devonia (100% West Country wool; 388m/ 100gm), dyed with sumac

5 x 20gm skeins of Whorl (72% kid mohair/ 285 silk; 840m/ 100gm), dyed with cochineal, logwood, madder, oak and sumac.

Plus:

A digital copy of the Winter Roe pattern.

A large wool tweed pouch in wintery, deer-inspired shades to carry your Winter Roe as you make it.

Small surprise treasures from friends who have been excellent supporters of mine and whose work I wanted to highlight: Rachel Atkinson of Daughter of a Shepherd, Kim Rebecca of Locavore Flowers and Lorna Reid of Stitchbirdie. These wee surprises should help to remind you of the promise that winter holds and the scent of spring, of new life in spring, of the beauty in nature’s shades.

And a postcard of the wintery photo that inspired this box.

These will ship on Monday, March 7!
