Conceived as a way to exhaust the very last bit of colour from large dyebaths and to play with colour, this collection was inspired by the beautiful work of Judit Gummlich in her new book, Embroidery on knits, and comes in three colourways:

Bird and flower (images 1 & 2): A joyful mix of fresh and earthy shades of pink, green and gold, perfect for the flora and fauna in Judit's book. Dyed with cochineal, goat willow, horsetail, indigo, madder, rhubarb and weld.

Delft (images 3 & 4):  Inspired by Judit's take on stylized folk art in shades of petrol, aquamarine, clay, burnt orange and rust. Dyed with cutch, indigo, madder, oak and weld.

Winter in the garden (images 5 & 6): Subtle, rich shades of purple, olive and gold that evoke the winter garden in all its delicate beauty. Dyed with goat willow, goldenrod, horsetail, indigo, lac (insect-derived), madder and oak.

These threads are suitable for embroidery and hand stitching, as well as fine knitting, crochet and weaving (weft only). They work beautifully on linen, cotton, felt and wool.  They were dyed with care, using time-honoured methods and dyes that give long-lasting colour.

Fibre: Appleton’s crewel wool, 2-ply; 100% wool sourced and processed in Britain and dyed in Glasgow. Packed in a recyclable glassine bag with label and care instructions.

Meterage: Approx 36m/ 5gm per ball (10 x 5gm per set)
